OUROBOROS
GAME DESIGN

An Unreal Engine project level, inspired by the film "The Dark Knight Rises".
I used broken pillars, worn stairs, and mossy walls as environmental storytellers - showing a long-abandoned prison and player character.

I used Unreal's visual scripting tool Blueprint to make the torch at the start of the game interactive, and to give the player the ability to double jump.

THE PIT

HOLCAN
/hɔlˈkan/ — hol-KAHN : warrior; fighter (rendered from Yucatec Maya)
HOLCAN is a third person RPG set in the classic era of Aztec civilization. While the story will have some historical elements, it will be largely fictionalized.
This is my current indie project, developed in Unity and using both Playmaker and C#. In it's very early prototype phase, I created a Game Design Document and a Milestone Plan to track my progress and maintain the vision and design direction.
The latest update in it's development: I have added a music track to the game, which intensifies and shifts as the player leaves the jungle setting of the level and enters the occupied city. I also added ambient sounds specific to jungle, lake, and city zones, keeping the player immersed in the environment. Playtesting the above level showed that the pacing needs to be changed, and certain items interrupt player immersion and need to be either adjusted or removed.
Next Steps: I need to finish making playable Main and Pause menu's, and use blender to create a story-accurate player character.

STARBITE ART
My goal was simple - design a website that doesn’t get in the way of spectacular art.

My redesign was focused on showcasing the artist's work and letting fans become familiar with the original characters and their stories.
I wanted the user to have a natural flow that would lead them to dive deeper into content and find relevant merchandise.
My user research showed that users were confused by the original site's navigation, especially it's use of two navigation bars and the numerous categories in them. The site's IA was not helpful for users trying to explore the site.
Inspired by modern art galleries, which use very minimal design and give plenty of space for the work to stand out, I developed wireframes for testing and iteration. The artist loved the final result, and found an increase in their user engagement and purchases in both their store and Patreon subscriptions.
Want to see a prototype?
After testing the lo-fi prototype above I decided to change the number of columns and offset them to give more emphasis to the art.

February 2022 - Present
March 2021 - January 2022
Game Design with Steve Young - I learned principles of game design and practiced them using Unreal Engine, Unity, and Construct 3. I learned how to communicate design choices and direction with Game Design Docs, Visual Reference Boards, and in Milestone planning.
UX Design Professional Certificate from Google - Empathizing with users through research, defining pain points, ideating and prototyping solutions, and user testing. I used Figma to create designs for real businesses and a local artist.
Surgical Scheduler - I began as a receptionist and worked with management to help other receptionists develop skills as patient advocates. I was promoted to remote scheduling of colonoscopies in 2023 and I have redesigned the patient portal flow and visual design separate from my full-time work there.
Freelance Film - Projects included various commercials, Grace Notes, Book of Mormon Videos, The Chosen, and an indie film by Hannah Peterson titled “The Graduates”(2023). Developed set design skills and iterated on those designs as needed for different scenes, stakeholder input from producers and directors, and camera angles.
